About

tinas-face

My clinical experience has focused in working with children, adolescents and their families.

I started my career working in day treatment and residential programs. These programs specialized in providing  therapeutic services to children and adolescents whom displayed sever anxiety, depression, high levels of impulsivity,  oppositional defiance, and aggressive behaviors.  I provided curriculum based groups and best practice services to the individual and family. These clients often had experienced with sexual, verbal, and/or physical abuse.

After my experience with residential and day treatment, I returned to my passion of providing services within the school environment.  In 2004, I took a position as a school therapist in a non-public school which focuses on educating emotionally disturbed students. I worked on a daily basis with teachers, staff, students, and families in creating experiences for students that built their confidence and pro social skills up.  I have experience in Individual Education Plans, Behavioral Support Plans, and Functional Analysis Development and Implementation.

I currently work within the San Diego Unified School District providing services to students between grades 1-8th.  These services include individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and connecting resources to families and clients.

Along with my education and experience in the field of psychotherapy, I am also a certified yoga teacher.  In working with all clients, I take into consideration the relationship between body, mind, and emotions. Through connecting those entities one can have a fulfilling and authentic life. When working with children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with any mood disorder, anxiety disorders, or whom have attention difficulties, I utilize techniques that focus on the body, mind and their emotions to help them self manage their difficulties. I strive to teach young people how to connect and use each of those entities to stay true to themselves and make the best decision for themselves.

I enjoy working with all types of family dynamics and believe that when working with a child, parent’s involvement is a vital part towards a successful change.
